Financial Literacy Workshop
Financial Literacy Workshop
Pathway to Freedom
It was a giant stride for YNOT when it held its financial literacy workshop on August 16th 2022. The presenter, Mrs Juliet ‘Kego Ume-Onyido, hit the ground running. She immediately captured attention by joggling people’s minds on their understanding of finance and time. Participants were quickly made to realize that financial literacy is beyond money but about our general well being.
She explained that in order to maximize our opportunities, all components of life shall be explored and balanced. In other words, our health, physical fitness, spiritual dispositions, family life /backgrounds, relationships, education, etc go a long way to determine our financial awareness.
She referenced the impact of slavery, colonialism, systemic racism, immigration on visible minorities, African Canadians and the Indigenous communities. The goal of the workshop was to equip participants on how to navigate out of poverty using knowledge learned to access resources and incentives available.
It was a robust and interactive session with all sharing life lessons that ordinarily would not be connected to how people make financial decisions. The workshop was an eye opener to young persons who were not familiar with credit ratings, procedures and expectations. It reminded and/or brought to attention of older folks common mistakes and errors that impact them negatively.
At the end of the session, participants were excited about what they learned and were eagerly looking forward to subsequent workshops. It was an excellent presentation with positive feedbacks requesting larger venue to accommodate more people as they would want to invite friends, colleagues and relatives whom they believe will benefit from further workshops.
This is your opportunity to have a clearer financial pathway, don’t miss it. Join us in forthcoming sessions. You will be glad you did…
