By recognizing outstanding leadership and community commitment, YNOT has proven their indispensability. As the representative of the people of York West, a community which has long been the benefactor of civic-minded groups and individuals, it is a true honour to extend my personal congratulations and best wishes to each of those celebrating and being commemorated. Today you recognize the hard work and community commitment of certain specific individuals, in particular where young people are concerned… but you are also celebrating the important and ongoing impact that a neighbour-helping-neighbour philosophy can yield when applied on a larger scale. In Canada, we have always depended heavily upon our volunteer and community minded sectors and, with this in mind, few would quibble over the important function groups such as YNOT serve within our communities. Over the years, YNOT has contributed substantially to the successful development of the area and, has forged a role as an accomplishments broker. Put another way, by recognizing outstanding leadership and community commitment, YNOT has proven their indispensability. Without question, by supporting those who support us, YNOT has carved out and filled an important enabling niche that makes life better for so many. In the same vein, the recipients of these awards have given much and their generosity to the people and communities of York West cannot be underestimated. On behalf of the Liberal Caucus, our Leader Justin Trudeau and all the people of York West, I extend my very best wishes for success, peace and progress in the years ahead.
It is with pleasure that I extend greetings to the Youth Now On Track Program (YNOT) on the occasion of your annual awards banquet. I also want to congratulate you on the important work you do giving meaning to the lives of young people in conflict with the law. Through intervention and prevention strategies, programs and services, YNOT has worked tirelessly to get youth back on track. With your help many young people have not only overcome the obstacles in their path but have also become role models to motivate their peers to do likewise. Your principles of advocacy, purposefulness, diversity, respect and collaboration have made the work you do effective and relevant. There is still much to do but each success story is not only a victory for one young person but for their family and community as well. The good work done by YNOT deserves celebration and I hope everyone attending tonight’s event has a wonderful time. I extend my congratulations to the award winners and thank the participants and organizers for the important work they are doing for our community.
